The T-Rex LIVES!!

I was walking through the parking lot at work and saw a coworker heading for the office. She is a good looking woman but leaves a little to be desired when it comes to grace. I am not saying she is clumsy, but she is rather awkward. She was wearing a short skirt, nice blouse and four inch heels. I know they were four inch heels at first site because I have three daughters (not because I have heels in my closet. Mine are six inch heels).

I have seen her in heels several times. And I know she wears them to look good at work. I truly get why she wears them. But, Lord, she looks anything but glamorous when she walks. You can just tell that she NEVER wears heels. She walks like a T-Rex.

Most people walk from heel to toe. If you look at the bottom of your shoe, you will see wear patterns on the heel, the mid-foot area and the toe area. When running, a proper gait is when one runs on the outside of the heel area to the inside of the front foot toward the ball of the foot. This is normal (it is called pronation). Those who are experienced in heels walk heel to toe but use the heel to keep balance while most of the weight is passed to the balls of the feet (I researched this. It has nothing to do with those six inch heels in my closet).

But this poor gal did not know how to walk in high heels and she looked like she could fall at any moment. Not only was it not attractive, it was funny. I just hope she doesn’t fall and doesn’t have any important meetings where she has to stand or walk in front of people she needs to impress.

What is the moral of this story? Glamour isn’t everything. Professionalism isn’t looks. Functionality can be professional. If you can’t walk in heels, wear flats.
